Description

The University Complutense of Madrid is a public university with over 86,000 students. The participating ETEP Research Group (Aetiology and Therapeutics in Periodontal Diseases) is in the Faculty of Odontology in UCM. This research group gathers more than 30 members of different levels, with Prof. Mariano Sanz as the chairman and main investigator of ETEP.

The main research lines are: oral microbiology and bacterial host-interactions (biofilm biology, periodontal pathogens, bacterial genetic diversity); clinical trials to evaluate different antimicrobial approaches in the treatment of gingivitis and periodontitis (antiseptics, antibiotics, lasers, etc.); clinical trials and experimental in vivo investigations to test the efficacy of different periodontal regenerative approaches; clinical trials and experimental in vivo investigations to test the efficacy of different surgical protocols using dental implants including bone regenerative interventions and clinical trials and experimental in vivo investigations to test the efficacy of different therapeutic approaches in the treatment of peri-implant diseases.
