Description

The University Medical Center in Groningen (UMCG) was founded in 1797 and has 13,000 employees and 4,000 students. The Biomedical Engineering Department is part of the UMCG and closely related to the hospital. Within the department, the internationally recognized “Biomaterials-associated infections” research group of Prof. van der Mei who participates in NOMAD currently has 21 PhD students and 1 postdoc.

Her research focuses on (a) the prevention of microbial infection by novel anti-adhesive coatings and antimicrobial biomaterials, and (b) the development of advanced co-culture infection models in vitro to evaluate these novel coatings, also (c) the clinical translation of novel coatings for infection controls.
